Im a fully fledged Bargain Hunter

Its only like 10 or something weeks until we go so I’ve been hitting the kit list hard trying to get together items that hopefully will stop me morphing with the ice when the mercury drops below the small numbers. However I am increasingly finding that the biggest issue is not finding good kit, there are a truck load of people out there willing to sell me new jackets or trousers that defy the laws of gravity to help you climb or represent a “quantum leap” in waterproofing technology- if only they new that a quantum is actually the smallest possible amount something can change by (showing my goony side a bit here aren’t I?) These new technologies are all well and good but its all so bloody expensive, and I find myself becoming incredibly anal about researching products and then getting the best deal- perhaps not a bad trait may I add.

So where has this all led me?- I have come to one conclusion, buy second hand. So far I have bought a silk  sleeping bag liner, thermarest and some trekking poles for just £85- not bad considering a decent thermarest alone is £80 new.

Although perhaps I’ll avoid 2nd hand baselayers, I think they may be perfumed with the scent of eau de sweat.

Calum.
